Getting rear-ended is one of the most common types of car accidents. If you were driving the vehicle that was struck, it’s less likely the accident was your fault.

According to FindLaw, the car who struck another car from behind is typically at fault in rear-end accidents. Cars are supposed to leave enough space between each other to allow for the front car to stop suddenly.

However, the driver of the front car can be partially to blame if he or she was violating a traffic law, was negligent, or if any of the car’s rear lights were out.
