New York may be out of the running to host next year's NFL Draft.

It was reported Thursday that Chicago, Los Angeles and New York were the frontrunners as potential hosts for the 2015 NFL Draft.

However, scheduling the draft at Madison Square Garden or the Barclays Center as alternative sites in New York for three days presents challenges because of scheduling conflicts involving the New York Rangers and Knicks and Brooklyn Nets.

ESPN reported that the NFL met Friday to discuss possible sites for the draft. Aside from Chicago and Los Angeles, the league is also considering Boston, Dallas, Houston, Nashville, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

The league asked each of the cities to provide a detailed proposal by the middle of June and a decision is expected by the end of the month.

An official date, expected to be at least one week earlier than the 2014 event that was the first ever held in May but spilled into Mother's Day, could be announced well before the NFL settles on a host.

Next year's draft is likely to be held either April 22-25 or April 29-May 2

Chicago was first floated as a front-runner to replace New York and Radio City Music Hall last July, but the NFL has not commented on a pecking order or any specific parameters for selecting the ultimate host.

It remains possible that the multi-day draft, which was held over three days (May 8-10), could also be a multi-city event.
