An Idaho Falls woman is in custody after two men were shot with a BB gun on June 12, 2014, police said.

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho -

An Idaho Falls woman is in custody after two men were shot with a BB gun, police said. The situation could have been worse, as one of the men shot was carrying an actual firearm.

He was shot in the leg. Another man was shot in the face. Both are expected to be OK.

Police said the shooting was an escalation of a physical fight that happened Wednesday night, and escalated to Dominica Maddux shooting at people on Thursday afternoon.

Police said Maddux was upset over the argument that occurred between her 38-year-old sister, Dia Maddux, and 24-year-old Brent A. Logan, both of Idaho Falls. Police said Dominica Maddux shot Logan in the face.

Maddux was arrested on two felony counts of aggravated battery.

A 17-year-old girl who saw the incident on Holbrook Drive in Idaho Falls around 3:15 p.m. called 911. She said she was concerned for the safety of the children who play on the street.

Tim Hanekamp, who was hit in the leg, said it began when he was inside his home and his wife told him there was someone outside the house a gun.

"I got my gun ... put it in my back pocket," he said. "I walked outside. As soon as I walked outside, I got shot in the leg. So I pulled (out) my gun, pointed it at her and she took off running."

Hanekamp's gun was not a BB gun -- it was a 9 mm.

He said he didn't fire because of the many children in the neighborhood.

"I didn't want to have a projectile hit somebody," said Hanekamp, 51. He said the police thanked him for not shooting.

Hanekamp said he's now no more nervous living in the area than he usually is.

"I do stay on edge about the kids," he said. "I sit out here every day and watch them just to make sure that nothing happens because it is a little bit rougher around here."

Logan was arrested on a warrant and a charge of felony attempted strangulation, stemming from the fight the night before. Dia Maddux was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant. Both were booked into the Bonneville County Jail.
