IDAHO FALLS, Idaho -

A group of volunteers is working to revive a local landmark.

Cole Ybarguen, his friends and family, and the Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation Department are cleaning up Keefer's Island on the Snake River.

The effort is part of Ybarguen's Eagle Scout project.

The volunteers spent much of Tuesday clearing weeds and brush from the cabin that was built on the island in 1939.

"(The cabin) was a piece of history that needed to be uncovered so that people can see it, because I didn't know it was there until I got the project itself," Ybarguen said. "We just wanted to uncover it so that people will know it's there."

Ybarguen also plans to have a sign made for the Greenbelt to tell the history of Keefer's Island.
