A train hit a pickup in Blackfoot on Thursday afternoon.
Idaho State Police said Anthony Pfannschmidt, 26, of Blackfoot, of southbound on 100 West near U.S. 91 in a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup. He stopped at a railroad crossing due to the activated red lights around 1:30 p.m. After stopping, ISP said, Pfannschmidt felt like he was dangerously close to the crossing and decided to cross the tracks.
As Pfannschmidt was crossing the tracks, the pickup had a mechanical issue, causing it to slow down.
This led to a Union Pacific train striking Pfannschmidt's pickup and pushing it off the tracks.
Pfannschmidt was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.
His pickup, however, was heavily damaged. There was minor damage to the train and none to the tracks.
The road was blocked for a half hour for traffic control.
The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
