Jefferson County Sheriff: Weekend shooting, stabbing are unrelated

RIGBY, Idaho -

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has released more information on two violent crimes that happened over the weekend.

The first crime is a deadly shooting that happened in Rigby on Sunday. The second is a triple stabbing that happened Saturday in Roberts.

Jefferson County Sheriff Blair Olsen confirmed Monday that the two crimes are not connected.

Alfredo Mora works at the remote farm in Roberts, where the stabbings took place. He said when he returned to work on Sunday morning, he was greeted by sheriff's deputies.

Once Mora got inside the farm house, which is used as a break room for employees, he realized why it was a crime scene.

"I (found) a bunch of bottles of beer," Mora said.

Mora said a party at the house Saturday night got out of control.  He said he was not at the party.

"I saw all this blood, here," Mora said, gesturing to blood-stained carpet and walls in the hallway.

Olsen said three people were stabbed at the party. One of them is Mora's coworker.

"I don't know what happened," Mora said. "They're pretty good people."

Olsen said all three victims are expected to be OK.

Meanwhile, a search for the weapon is on.

"We were given information that the weapon used in the stabbing was discarded along the Lewisville Highway in Bonneville County," Olsen said.

Deputies from Jefferson and Bonneville Counties are combing through a miles-wide stretch of fields and canals by the highway, near where the suspect was pulled over and arrested on Sunday.

"Our expectation is that we'll be searching here for likely the next two to three days, off and on," said Lt. Kevin Casper of the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office.

The stabbing suspect is less than 18 years old, so Olsen is not releasing his name.

Olsen also released more information about Sunday's shooting in Rigby, which happened near East 200 North, outside of a girl's 15th birthday party.

Fermin Lemus was killed. According to the sheriff's office, he was shot multiple times.

Emmanuel Granados was arrested in connection to the shooting.

According to Olsen, Granados was getting on a bus in Salt Lake City when police tracked him down. He was arrested in Iron County, Utah, where he's awaiting extradition to Idaho.

Granados is being charged with second degree murder. His bond is set at $750,000.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is still looking into whether more people should be charged in the shooting.
