With dry conditions and high fire risk, it's even more important to follow the rules before lighting the fuse.

BONNEVILLE COUNTY, Idaho -

The 4th of July weekend is getting closer; fireworks stands are already popping up.

With dry conditions and high fire risk, it's even more important to follow the rules before lighting the fuse.

Fireworks that stay close to the ground, not emitting sparks or showers more than 20-feet high, will be the only option for Idahoans.

Those so-called "safe and sane" fireworks are the only ones stands in the gem state are allowed to sell.

With only two weeks left until 4th of July celebrations across eastern Idaho, it's almost time to start lighting up the skies with fireworks.

That means it's time for vendors to prepare.

"We own about 35-40 stands... it's kind of a moving target right now... but that's between Arizona and Idaho," said Jared Jensen.

Jared Jensen, owner of ACME Discount Fireworks, has been in the business for 21 years.

State regulations don't allow bottle rockets, aerial displays, even firecrackers in Idaho, but he said people can still have fun.

"The things that crackle and pop, the sparklers, those are always a hit," said Jensen. "Then there are the tanks, the toys, the novelties. And there are some really great fountains."

But if the earth-bound fireworks just won't cut it for you, there will be fireworks shows across the region for the 4th of July.

The stands are empty now, but they'll be busy soon enough.

In Idaho Falls, stands open June 24th; Blackfoot will start selling fireworks July 1st; Pocatello will be open June 28th; and you can buy fireworks in Rexburg June 26th.

There are places in the gem state where you can purchase illegal fireworks, but if you're caught lighting them off, you can face a misdemeanor citation and a $1,000 fine.
