CHUBBUCK, Idaho -

Chubbuck Mayor Steven England announced today he will not be seeking a third term in the municipal elections in November.

In a phone interview Wednesday, England said he made his decision for personal reasons, but primarily because his wife is retired and they would both like to to travel to see their grandchildren.

“I'd like to be involved but probably not as heavily as it takes to be mayor,” England said.

England has served as mayor for two terms and, prior to that, he served on the city council for 22 years.

“It's been a great ride,” he said. “I hope in the next few months we'll get some more things completed.”

England said those things mostly include road projects. He said he appreciated the trust the citizens put in him as mayor and he was grateful for the support the community gave him during office.

On Monday, City Councilman Kevin England, Steven England's brother, filed his petition to be on the ballot. Steve England said he was “comfortable” with having his brother as a candidate.

“He (is) very capable, very competent in what the does,” Steven England said. “I think I would feel comfortable with having him there as a candidate. I certainly do.”

So far, Kevin England is the only candidate to file.
