Teton County, Idaho, officials say they talked by telephone this morning with a 16-year-old girl who has been missing from her Driggs home since July 17. Sheriff's office spokesperson Valle Wells said Kenia America Stack of Driggs told her she was healthy and well. Wells said the girl called to make it clear she had not been kidnapped and that she had left home on her own free will.
The girl said she went with her aunt to Mexico because her grandmother there was ill. Kenia claimed she did not tell her aunt she was a runaway until after they arrived in Mexico. She also told authorities she intended to stay there.
The girl was reported missing after failing to show up for work at Wendy's in Jackson, Wyo., on July 17. The Madison County Sheriff's Office found her vehicle parked under a tree July 20.
