IYAFC chosen to design ornament

The Idaho Falls Youth Arts Center was chosen to represent the state of Idaho and design an ornament for the annual National Christmas Tree display at the White House in Washington, D.C.  24 youth from the IFYAC and Idaho Falls High School are working on the design.

Art teacher at Idaho Falls High School, Brett Schwieder has been an artist since he was a teenager, but this is unlike any other project.

"Its kind of exciting. It's something unique and different. I've done things around the area, but I've never done something so huge like this, so it's kind of fun to say I've been a part of this and nationally I've got something out there," Schwieder said.

A lot of ideas were submitted for the design. Idaho Falls High School senior Alexis Lapray said she's sure some ideas will trump others.

"I'm sure there will be at least one potato on there so people will know it's from Idaho," said Lapray.

This year marks the 90th anniversary for the National Christmas tree display. Students are excited to be a part of history. "It's so cool, it's just mind blowing. Everyone is going to be able to see this. it's just really cool to be a par of that," added Lapray.

The group will finish their design by the end of the month.
