REXBURG, Idaho -

One of the big issues facing lawmakers this year is gun control.

An upper valley man is organizing a rally in opposition of President Obama's new gun control proposals.

He says the event is part of an effort to create solidarity and show local leaders eastern Idahoans have no desire to surrender their firearms.

"We don't want to start any kind of revolution, but what we do want to do is have a war of information," said Dan Roberts, rally organizer.

For Roberts, any limitation on his right to own a firearm is a threat to the U.S. Constitution.

"Everybody asks are you ready to turn in your arms? Are you ready to turn in your guns? And they kind of have the Charlton Heston answer, you'll have to pry it out of my cold, dead fingers. That's a popular sentiment," said Roberts.

That's why Roberts is making plans for what he's calling the "Save Our Second Amendment" Rally. He said the idea is to create solidarity between the public and elected officials -- specifically county government.

"Those are the people who can really do something at the local level to kind of thwart the efforts of the federal government coming in and just saying we can just take that right away."

The "SOS" Rally will take place next Saturday, the 26th. It will begin with a march from the Madison County Courthouse to Porter Park in Rexburg. Participants will also be encouraged to sign petitions that will be sent to county, state and federal leaders.

There is also a rally planned for Saturday afternoon in Coeur d'Alene.
