REXBURG, Idaho -

Rexburg is a smaller city with no public transportation system so it can be somewhat of a challenge, especially for students.

Getting groceries without a car can be especially difficult, but for Lindsay Baker and Natasha Weese it's no problem.

With just the swipe of a card the doors unlock and Lindsay and Natasha are on their way to Albertson's.

"I really wanted to get a car before I came up for fall semester but I wasn't able to, so I saw that and was like oh my gosh that's perfect," Lindsay said.

For only $6 these two students can take out a WeCar for an hour and a half and buy all the groceries they need for the week.

"It's easier than carrying a backpack full of groceries and hands full of milk and then walking across town,? Lindsay said. ?It's much easier."

"It's very convenient having the WeCar so close," Natasha said.

Without the car payment, insurance bills and gas charges, Lindsay saves enough cash to eat well and even spend a little on flowers for the apartment.

"Last semester I wouldn't get all the stuff I needed to get, I would just get what I could carry so it wasn't as good,? Lindsay said. ?Sometimes I would go like a week without getting food and it wasn't good."

While the weather was no trouble Wednesday, Lindsay said the car will be especially nice in the Rexburg winter.

"You don't want to be trudging all the way to Broulims or even across the street when it's like 20 degrees,? Lindsay said. ?It's nice to have a car with heating in it, its very convenient."

After more than 120 students have registered with WeCar this first semester, Enterprise Sales Executive Jess Warren said they may have to add more cars.

"It really is exceeding our expectations and doing very well,? Warren said. ?It's definitely something that's outside of the box from your normal rental car situation to meet the needs that we have seen here at the university and reduce parking issues."

Out of the 24 universities that launched the WeCar program this fall BYU-Idaho has the most users to date.
